'Round the Mountain

We had a great family day on the water yesterday. We paddled from Lower Saranac Lake to Lake Flower, about 12 miles. The sun was out all day and the Autumn colors were brilliant. We stopped at the Sister Islands for lunch and play, watched some rock climbers climb the cliffs on Bluff Island and went through the Lower Locks and into Lake Oseetah then Lake Flower where we finished with ice cream. Griffin and Ruby did great, singing songs and playing I Spy to pass the time.

First Day of School

The first day of school went surprisingly well. After months of anxiety leading up to today, we were very proud of how well Griffin handled the day. Griffin was up early to "organize his backpack" and lunch box and Ruby worked hard picking out the perfect outfit. Although he didn't take the bus, Griffin walked right into this classroom and started to play. One of his best friends, Patrick (Billie Joe's son) sits right across the table from him. His teacher, Mrs. Laba, is looking out for our little Griffin. She said he did so well today and is a great listener. We are confident that Griffin will enjoy his first year of school.

Ruby enjoyed "cubby day" at Northern Lights School. She will go 2-3 mornings a week where she'll play, bake bread, paint, and sing songs. Her symbol is a mountain - something big and strong. She also did surprisingly well on her first day. She was playing with her friend Henry, Zoe's little brother, trying to perform surgery on a little lamb who lost his eye, and being farmers. She also helped cut up apples and climbed in the playground. She says she is ready to go to school on her own (no mom and dad). The question is, are we ready?

Back in the Adirondacks

After being back in the Adirondacks for less than 24 hours we were on the water headed for a hot dog and smores cook out with our friends Leena and Owen. We paddled to a beautiful beach on Stoney Creek Ponds and made a fire, cooked hot dogs, swam in the pond and of course ate smores.

Pool time!

Our one day at the pool was much anticipated. Griffin was too busy for photos, but he, like his sister, was wearing a big smile. Grandma Sue and Grandpa Jim made sure the kids kept cool and kept their smiles by providing them with their own private pool.

Owl's Head

Griffin, Ruby, and Daddy went on a great hike with our friends Tammy and Baby Zarela just before leaving on our Perry and Erie County tour. Here are the kids enjoying the summit view.
